Paleontology and geologySome of the metamorphic rocks found in a small area in the far northwestern part of the state may be either Cambrian or Ordovician in age. Metamorphism during an Ordovician mountain-building event (the Taconic Orogeny) has made it difficult to determine the original age of formation of this material; however, the original material was once sediment deposited in an ocean which covered the state in the Cambrian and Ordovician. |
