Paleontology and geology

Tectonically speaking, the Cretaceous was a relatively quiet time in Pennsylvania. It was primarily a time of erosion in Pennsylvania's geologic history. There are a few marine rocks in the far southeastern part of the state that appear to be Cretaceous or Tertiary in age. These rocks record a brief return of a shallow sea to the region.
